UNITED NATIONS 50 YEARS NEW ZEALAND

A stamp released from 1995

United Nations

The United Nations was set up at the close of World War II to engender harmony and understanding among the countries of the world.

The organisation has played a leading role in world affairs during the last 50 years. At political flashpoints all over the globe, wherever there has been poverty or extreme need, the United Nations has been there.

CHOGM NZ STAMPS 1995

A pair of nice stamps.

Recently I received these two stamps though released in 1995.

In November 1995 New Zealand hosted its first Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). This significant event was held in Auckland and was attended by approximately 1,500 people including the Heads of State of all Commonwealth Nations and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Issue information

Held every two years in different countries, CHOGMs are noted for giving Commonwealth leaders the opportunity to meet and exchange views in an informal setting. Pomp and ceremony are kept to a minimum. Resolutions are reached, not by voting, but rather by extensive consultation and arriving at a consensus.
