The Paranoá Lake is an artificial lake in Brasilia , the Federal District in Brazil . It was designed in 1894 by Mission Cruls [1] and realized with the construction of the city during the administration of President Juscelino Kubitschek .
The lake is formed by the waters dammed the Rio Paranoá . It has 48 square kilometers, maximum depth of 38 meters and about fifty miles in circumference, with some artificial beaches, such as "Prainha" and "Piscinão Lake North". Located inBrasilia , was created with the goal of increasing the humidity in its vicinity. Around the lake, there are several bars and restaurants. The neighborhoods South Lake and North Lake derive their name from the lake. Each occupies one of two peninsulas .
